Early in 2019, Kevin Field and Jane Pitt decided they’d had enough working for other people.

As an HGV driver for Costa Coffee, Kevin was travelling all over Somerset, Dorset, Devon & Cornwall, while Jane was working as a manger in Clinton Cards, when they spotted a perfect opportunity to combine their experience into one business of their own.

Jane-Kevin.jpg“By purchasing the Card Connection territory of Exeter, we were able to use many transferable skills, virtually from week one,” explains Kevin. “For example, I’m comfortable driving and navigating routes to our various stores, while Jane uses her knowledge of card design and greeting card, to make sure we pick, pack and merchandise the best ranges for each individual store.”

With 131 outlets to service across the territory, covering the Jurassic Coast, towns including Barnstaple, Exeter, Dorchester, Weymouth & Exmouth, their customer base is very varied.
“We merchandise an average of 10 stores a day, and the trick has been to make sure we’ve get to know the needs of each store, to tailor make the card selection for each,” Explains Jane, “And that’s where I use my knowledge from Clintons, plus my previous experience as a merchandiser for two other card publishers.”

So, has becoming Card Connection changed their lives?

“Yes, we are able to work for ourselves and feel in control of our days again. We can make plans, knowing that everything in the business has been looked after,” replies Kevin. “As we are working in one of the most picturesque parts of the country, we are always able to have our lunches and breaks with breath taking views,” smiles Jane.
